Sainsbury's reports best ever Christmas

Sainsbury's has reported a record breaking Christmas as like-for-like sales rose 2.1% in the 14 weeks to 7 January.

The supermarket said it enjoyed its “best Christmas ever” with 26 million customer transactions in the Christmas week, up 1.5 million on last year.

Access Point Scoop National Retail Contract from The Co-Operative Group

National retailer, The Co-operative Group, has appointed Southport-based Access Point to look after its promotional event bookings.

Access Point will take responsibility for all non-listed promotional event bookings at more than 700 Co-op sites across the country. Work will begin at the start of next month following the successful trial between the two companies.

Sainsbury's annual profits rise by 12.8%

Supermarket group Sainsbury's has reported a 12.8% rise in annual pre-tax profits to £827m and says that it has taken market share from rivals.

The retailer said that total sales for the year to 19 March rose 7.1% to £23bn, with non-food sales up strongly.

Chief executive Justin King said customer numbers were at an all-time high of 21 million transactions a week - up one million on the previous year.

Hat Trick of Appointments at Access Point

The marketing company has promoted three members of its 32 strong team to management and director positions.

Amanda Shaw, 39, from Birkdale, Southport, has been promoted to Resource Director. She has been with the company for nine years and was previously Senior Technical Administrator.

Caroline Chong, 42, from Churchtown, Southport, has been with Access Point for two years. She moves from Accounts Administrator to the position of Finance Director.
